Spiritual gifts are an important and necessary aspect of a Christian’s life, and one of the keys to the church accomplishing it’s God-given mission of Know Christ and Making Him Known throughout our city and the world.
To help you discern your God-given gift, we’d encourage you to consider the following steps:
- Discover your gifts through the life of the local church. If the gifts are meant for the common good and building up of the church- it just might be that God would help you discover your gifts through the needs of the church. You might need to try your hand in a few different opportunities to help you discover how you are gifted. And perhaps God might give you a specific gift you didn’t know you had for a specific time to meet that need in that season of the church.
- Seek Godly counsel. You should listen to what people around you affirm that they see in you, and it’s wise to ask mature Christians to confirm or deny those gifts. The gifts are meant for the body of Christ, so it makes sense to seek the body’s input!
- Take a Spiritual Gift Inventory. A spiritual gift inventory may be helpful to identify specific areas you may be gifted in. We’ve provided a spiritual gift inventory for you to use at the bottom of this page. Simply fill out the information below to start the test. - PRAY! Pray for the particular needs of the church, and pray that God would raise up laborers to fill those needs. Pray that God would help you discern the needs of the church, the wisdom of what people around you see in you, and the results from your spiritual gift inventory. And ultimately- pray and ASK the Lord to see where He would have you serve and use your gift.
- Do Something! Each of us is gifted for the common good; therefore, let us use our gifts! Don’t wait until you are 100% of your gifts- just jump in and serve! While you are serving you may even discover one of the areas you didn’t realize you were gifted in to build up the body of love! Yes- you can discover your gifts WHILE serving!
