Substitute

Series: Jesus The King Scripture: Mark 14:53–15:15

Title: Substitute
Text: Mark 14:53-15:15

Notes:

  • The Trial of Jesus was an illegitimate, illegal trial.
  • In verse 62, both of the biblical allusions Jesus makes about himself show the Messiah coming as a judge.
  • The gospel says we are more wicked than we could ever believe, but more loved and accepted in Christ than we could ever hope.
  • The blameless one was blamed so the blameworthy can go free.

Substitutions:

  1. Jesus took the punishment the religious leaders deserved (Markk 14:53-65)
  2. Jesus took the punishment that Peter deserved (Mark 14:66-72)
  3. Jesus took the punishment that Barabbas deserved (Mark 15:6:15)
  4. Jesus took the punishment that you and I deserve
