A Church FOR The City

January 29, 2017 Speaker: Kevin Deyette Series: Stand Alone

Passage: Jeremiah 29:1–7

Sermon Title: A Church FOR The City
Text: Jeremiah 29:1-7

Notes:

Attitudes toward the city:

  1. Apathy- in the city
  2. Animosity- against the city
  3. Imitation- like the city
  4. Sacrificial Love- for the city

God’s message for the exiles:

  1. Settle into the city
  2. Don’t forget your true identity
  3. Seek the welfare of the city
    Shalom: universal flourishing

Implications for Restoration Church:

  1. Settle into the city
“The Church in general in the Yakima Valley has shown itself to have a heart for the downtown area, evidence through a wide range of outreach events targeting downtown. However, the need is not just a church to share the gospel with their neighbor, but to disciple, encourage, equip, and live out the gospel alongside those in the inner city.”
  2. Sacrificially love the city.
“We believe that ministry is all about relationships. Jesus taught this same idea, that it’s all about our relationship with Him and our relationship with others. In response, we are intentional about developing meaningful relationships with those different than us. We want to connect people to Jesus and one another so they can grow in community as God intended."
