Gospel Identity: Child

October 21, 2018 Speaker: Kevin Deyette Series: Gospel Centered Life

Passage: Romans 8:14–17

Title: Gospel Identity: Child
Text: Romans 8:14-17

Notes:

Why does identity matter? Being always precedes doing.

Gospel Identity: Child of God
1) It’s our new identity (Rom. 8:14-15)
-To be right with God the Judge is a great thing. But to be loved and cared for by God the Father is a greater thing.
2) It’s our new experience (Rom. 8:15).
3) It’s our new destiny (Rom. 8:17).

Because of Jesus- being a dearly beloved child of God is our new identity, experience and destiny.

You don’t earn your status as a children by suffering; rather suffering proves your status.

“If you want to judge how well a person understand Christianity, find out how much they make of the thought of being God’s child and of having God as their father. If this is not the thought that prompts and controls their worship, prayer, and whole outlook on life, they do not understand Christianity well […] Father is the Christian name for God” J.I. Packer.
