Title: It doesn’t matter what you believe as long as you are sincere. Text: John 14:1-7
Notes:
Good news? Spirituality is accepted.
Bad news? Contradicts what Scripture teaches (John 14:5-6).
There is beauty in most world religions. but they are not the same. Hinduism: Plurality of gods; goal is enlightenment achieved through fulfilling duties, knowledge. and religious devotion. Buddhism: No god; goal is to reach nirvana by purifying your heart and ridding yourself of sensual desires and attachment to self. Islam: One God “Allah”; after death you are rewarded or punished based on your works and religious devotion. New Age Beliefs: Goal is to achieve a higher conscience where you achieve your own divinity. Mormonism: Plurality of gods; follow teachings of the Mormon church to become a god yourself. Christianity: One, personal God; forgiveness/ blessing offered not based on what you’ve done, but what God has done through His goodness and love.
Sincerity alone is not enough (John 14:6).
Jesus is the only way to be right with God.
Consider Jesus:
1) His radical life (Mark 2:16-17).
2) His resurrection (1 Cor. 15:17).
3) His message (Rom. 3:22).
Religion: Right beliefs + right actions= reward.
Christianity: Jesus + nothing= everything.
What to do with the truth?
1) Experience the truth.
- Religion is spelled do; Christianity is spelled done.
2) Stand up for the truth.
