Title: Jesus and the Holy Spirit
Text: Philippians 2:1-11
Notes:
Charismatic (noun):
- Comes from Greek word "Charismata".
-Means gifts of grace.
-Someone who operates in the gifts of grace.
Jesus emptied Himself of His access to His God nature (Luke 2:52, Matt. 24:36, Phil. 2:5-8).
Jesus and His reliance on the power of the Holy Spirit:
-Holy Spirit at Jesus' birth (Luke 1:35).
-Holy Spirit at Jesus' baptism (Luke 3:22).
-Holy Spirit helped Jesus resist temptation (Luke 4:1-2).
-Jesus begins His ministry in power of the Holy Spirit (Luke 4:14).
-Jesus heals by power of the Holy Spirit (Luke 5:17).
-Jesus performs miracles by power of the Holy Spirit (Luke 11:20).
-Jesus rejoices by power of the Holy Spirit (Luke 10:21).
-Holy Spirit enabled Jesus' sacrifice for sin (Heb. 9:14).
-Holy Spirit raised Jesus from the grave (Rom. 1:4).
-Jesus lived His life in the power of the Holy Spirit (Zech. 4:6, Acts 10:38).
If Jesus needed the Holy Spirit- how much more should we?
Why don't we experience the Spirit's power?
- We're depending on the wrong power source (1 Kings 18:39).
- We're not engaged in His mission (Acts 1:8).
The disconnect is not between the mission of God and the power of God- it's between the people of God and the mission of God.
