Title: Purpose over Desire
Text: Mark 8:27-9:1
If you don't know the purpose of a thing, it can end up being misused.
The Problem with Desire:
Our heart is tainted with sin (Jere. 17:9).
What's the desire your heart twists to make ultimate or lead to compromise?
Our purpose: Follow Jesus (Mark 8:34).
"Christ" (noun): Messiah; Anointed one, the King above all other kings.
How do I choose God's purpose over my desires?
1) Deny yourself (Mark 8:34)
-Self-denial is at the heart of what Christianity is about (Heb. 11:24-26).
2) Take up your cross (Mark 8:34).
-Ready to bear afflictions; remain faithful despite being hard.
3) Stay faithful to God in the small things (Mark 8:34).
