Passage: Matthew 1:1–17
Text: Matthew 1:1-17
Title: Redeemed Genealogy
Lessons from Matthew's Genealogy:
1) Jesus' birth is rooted in history.
-"We haven't lacked good advice over the last 4,000 years- A little more wouldn't make any difference. We haven't followed the advice of great teachers before, why would we begin now? If Christianity means a bit more of good advice- then Christianity is of no importance" - C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity.
2) Jesus' birth is rooted in God's grace.
-"Jesus wasn't a person ashamed by sinners- He even puts them in His family tree" - Martin Luther.
3) Jesus' birth is rooted in God's faithfulness to His promises.
God's promises fulfilled in Christ are greater than any level of brokenness.
Home for the Holidays:
1) You can trust God to keep His promises.
God's promises:
-He is always with you (Deut. 31:6).
-He designed you with a purpose (Eph. 2:10).
-His love for you knows no end (Rom. 8:38-39).
-He'll give you abundant life (John 10:10).
-He'll comfort you in your trials (2 Cor. 1:4).
-He'll finish what He's started in you (Phil. 1:6).
-He'll give you peace (John 14:27; Phil. 4:7).
-He's working things out for your good (Rom. 8:28).
-He'll give rest for your weary soul (Matt. 11:28-30).
-He'll give you eternal live if you place your faith in Him (John 4:14).
2) God can redeem any level of brokenness for His good.
-You might be the generation God uses to change the course of your family history.
