Passage: Luke 5:1–11
Title: When Experience Meets Dependence
Text: Luke 5:1-11
Speaker: Pastor Kevin Deyette
Notes:
Faithfulness is not about doing more for God- it’s about trusting God to do His work in us. - Eugene Peterson
-
Dependence often starts in places we are most comfortable. (Luke 5:1-3)
-
Dependence begins when you let Jesus into the places you think you already mastered. (Luke 5:4-5)
-
Dependence means trusting God's word when it competes with our expertise, resume, and experience. (Luke 5:6-8)
- God's blessing flows from dependence, not optimization.
Message Summary: God's power, provision, and calling flow freely not through our expertise, but from our dependence on God.
Application:
- Dependence always leads to calling.
- Where are you most competent- and least prayerful? Where does life work well enough that you don't feel the need to ask God for help?
- Choose a simple reminder that interrupts your independence and reminds you to pray.
