Visible Faith

October 9, 2016 Speaker: Kevin Deyette Series: James: Faith Worth Living

Passage: James 2:14–26

Sermon Title: Visible Faith
Text: James 2:14-26

Notes:

Paul and James' belief:

  • Salvation is by faith alone.
  • Good works are the result of saving faith.

“We are saved by faith alone, but not by a faith that remains alone.” -Martin Luther

Definition of justification:

  1. To declare right; to make right what’s been wrong
  2. Prove yourself; show something to be true

True saving faith displays itself in a genuine love for others and a trust in God.
Acts of mercy are not a means of salvation. They are a necessary evidence of salvation.

Saving faith is not mere belief or knowledge, nor is it only an emotional response.

  • Abraham’s actions justified (proved) his saving faith in God.
  • Rehab’s actions justified (proved) her saving faith in God.
