September 25, 2022 Speaker: Kevin Deyette Series: The Story

Passage: Matthew 3:13– 4:11

Text: Matthew 3:13-4:11
Title: Identify and Substitute

The encouraging truth: Jesus identifies with us as humans.

Temptation 1: Prioritize God's gifts over God Himself.
Temptation 2: Interpret God through your circumstances rather than God's Word.
Temptation 3: Pursue good things the wrong way.

The encouraging truth: Jesus identifies with us in temptation.

The deeper truth: Jesus came as our substitute.

Root of temptation: doubting God is good and that He loves you.

Message Summary: Jesus identifies with us sinners, and becomes our substitute to free us from the power of sin.

Application:
1) Seek God for counsel and comfort.
2) When fighting temptation and sin, focus on what Jesus has done for you and not trying to overcome your sin.

Daily Prayers:
1) In Christ, there's nothing I can do to make God love me any more or any less.
2) God is all I need for everlasting joy.
3) As God has been to me- so I will be to others.
4) I will measure God's love by the cross and God's power by the resurrection.
